The Search

Each week, we reach out to our trusted network of surrogate agencies to learn about their available surrogates. Every profile is carefully reviewed, and we share only the 10–15% that we feel could be a true match for your journey. Because each intended parent and clinic has unique requirements, we focus on candidates who align closely with your individual needs and preferences. Our goal is to make this process as personal and thoughtful as possible, presenting you with surrogates who are the best fit for your path to parenthood.

Review your profiles

At Custom Fertility, we carefully review every surrogate profile through our experienced lens. We share with you only the candidates who meet the criteria we’ve discussed together. Once a profile is sent, it’s important to review and respond promptly—surrogates are not on hold at this stage, and many ideal matches are made within 24–48 hours.

If a profile interests you, let us know immediately! Custom Fertility can place a hold on the surrogate while you take a closer look, ask questions, and consider your options. There is no fee for this hold, which typically lasts 24–48 hours.

Surrogate profiles often include basic information, and most surrogates are happy to share more about themselves during this period. While you review, we also gather contracts and cost sheets from the agency for your consideration. Once you feel comfortable with the compensation, agency fees, and policies, we help you submit your “Dear Surrogate” letter for the agency to share. Keep in mind, surrogates also interview intended parents before committing to a cycle, ensuring a thoughtful match for everyone involved.

Exploring a match

If you’re interested in a surrogate, we share your clinic information with the agency, who then sends the surrogate’s medical records to your doctor for review. Depending on your clinic’s process, this can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Some clinics review profiles immediately, while others wait until all doctors can review together.

During this time, we pause the search for other surrogates to show the agencies that you’re serious about matching. If the surrogate isn’t approved or you decide to change direction, we’ll resume the search right away.

We also encourage you to connect directly with the agency. A virtual meeting or call gives you a full overview of their policies, process, and answers to any questions, helping you feel confident as you move forward.

Meeting your surrogate

Once your doctor approves a surrogate, you’ll have the opportunity to meet her virtually. Custom Fertility facilitates a brief introduction with the surrogacy agency to help schedule and guide this meeting. We’ll also provide you with helpful guidelines on what questions are appropriate to ask, ensuring a smooth and comfortable conversation.

After meeting the surrogate you’ll make your decision about moving forward only after this meeting:

YES: If you feel this surrogate is the right match and both parties agree, you will be fully introduced to the agency, which will then guide the process forward.

NO: If this surrogate isn’t the right fit, we immediately resume your search to find other suitable candidates.

Your agency

We take the time to truly know these agencies — building strong, ongoing relationships so we can confidently guide you toward those who share our same values of care, integrity, and professionalism.

Once you’re matched, the agency becomes your main point of contact for both you and your surrogate. Every agency is unique — with its own structure for fees, timelines, guarantees, and communication style — and we’ll help you understand exactly what to expect.

As you explore possible surrogates, we’ll walk beside you, offering insight into each agency’s approach, sharing honest feedback, and helping you weigh the pros and cons so you can make the decision that feels right for you.

The contract

Each agency has an agreement you will read and sign in order to match with your Surrogate. Further down the journey, there will be a legal contract created between you and your Surrogate, using a Third Party Fertility Attorney to draft and negotiate the contract. If you don’t have a Third Party Fertility Attorney, we are happy to provide you with some references.

Cost Estimate

At this time, the estimated cost of a surrogacy journey begins around $150,000. Each agency is unique in how they structure their fees, what those fees include, and how surrogate compensation is arranged.

When you begin exploring a potential match, we’ll reach out on your behalf to request fee sheets and any relevant materials. This ensures you have a clear understanding of the agency’s costs, policies, and practices, helping you make informed decisions with confidence and transparency.

Once you’ve transitioned to your new agency and chosen your surrogate, our part of the process is complete — but your story is just beginning.

Our search fee is $4,400, and we offer a free consultation before payment to ensure our services are the right fit for you. During this time, we’ll go over your specific criteria, walk you through our process, and discuss third-party fertility so you feel confident and informed.

Once you’re ready, we can begin the search within 1–2 days. We personally reach out to the top agencies across the United States to find the surrogate who best matches your unique journey. Our ultimate goal is to help you find the perfect match and take one step closer to building your family.
